If Birmingham is to grow and prosper, it is vital that we are successful in attracting new jobs, industries and capital investment to the city - and in retaining those who are already doing business here. To accomplish that, we need a mayor who understands the importance of a strong business community, and appreciates the need to cultivate a pro-business atmosphere at City Hall.
As Mayor, I will take an active role in bringing new businesses to Birmingham, using my background as a lawyer to aid in negotiations and close deals. We will have an aggressive but highly-targeted economic development program, with special focus on recruiting from sectors with high growth potential for Birmingham, including biotechnology, information technology, financial services, light manufacturing and distribution, and automotive-related industries. We'll also work with local start-ups, offering support and resources to help them be successful.
Our economic development program will also include a strong business retention component. We'll survey existing businesses on a regular basis to make sure our city government is doing everything possible to help local companies prosper. And we'll streamline the permitting and licensing process to make it easier for existing businesses to expand their operations.
Birmingham can and will be the most attractive place in the Southeast to relocate,
expand or start a business.
